O.I.D. Development Corp. of Astoria recently announced plans to start construction of the Fisher Brothers Loft condominiums in an historic building at the foot of 7th Street in Astoria. Construction in this building near the waterfront is scheduled to begin by the end of March, pending final approval by Astoria’s Historic Landmarks Commission. Preliminary approval for the project was given earlier.
Four top floor units in this two-story structure will be developed, ranging in size from 900-1,150 sq. ft. Two units are west facing, and two are north facing. One unit has been sold to date.
Chester Trabucco, O.I.D. president said the finished interior work would consist of quality materials and respect for historic elements.
“Granite, stone and fine woodworking will be incorporated into each unit, and the structural elements of the lofts, such as the large beams and wood floors will be evident,” Trabucco said.
Overbay Houseworks of Astoria has been contracted for this project.
If approved by HLC, plans call for a rooftop deck, much like the one Trabucco had constructed on another project he developed, the Hotel Elliott in Astoria.
“From the top of the building, condominium owners will have an expansive view of the Columbia River,” he said.
Other property features noted by Trabucco are all-weather balconies, secured lobby and storage areas, and private elevator.
“Access to the trolley and River Walk will also be attractive to owners,” Trabucco said.

Fisher Brothers Industrial has occupied the ground floor of the building since 1903, and recently relocated with parent company Englund Marine to a newly constructed facility at the Port of Astoria.
